bhagataa dhee sadhaa too rakhadhaa har jeeau dhur too rakhadhaa aaiaa ||
O Beloved Divine! You eternally preserve the honor of those immersed in the Naam. Since the very dawn of creation, You have sustained this shield of protection.
prahilaadh jan tudh raakh le har jeeau haranaakhas maar pachaiaa ||

O Beloved Divine! You preserved the honor of Your ultimate devotee, Prahlad, striking down and obliterating the tyrannical Harnakhash.
The Guru is not validating the literal or historical accuracy of the Prahlad and Harnakhash narrative; rather, it is employed as a widely recognized allegory among the people. Their historical existence holds no significance here. Consequently, debating their existence is merely a futile exercise, as the Guru never intended it to be a subject of controversy. Another dimension to consider is that within society, woman is traditionally viewed as vulnerable, and a child as innocent, pure-hearted, and simple. Gurbani, therefore, embraces these archetypes to convey a profoundly positive message."

gurmukhaa no parateet hai har jeeau manmukh bharam bhulaiaa ||1||
Those who turn toward the eternal Truth - the Gurmukhs - abide in absolute trust and unwavering faith in the Divine. Conversely, the self-willed Manmukh remains perpetually lost, astray in the labyrinth of doubt and delusion.
har jee eh teree vaddiaaiee ||
O Beloved Divine! This is Your supreme majesty alone—that You keep the devoted anchored to You, while leaving the self-willed adrift in the worldly play.
bhagataa kee paij rakh too suaamee bhagat teree saranaiee || rahaau ||
Preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Sovereign, for the devoted seek refuge in You alone. Pause.
bhagataa no jam joh na saakai kaal na neRai jaiee ||
Devotees (Gurmukhs) have no fear of death (Jum) because they abide directly within the Will (Hukam) of the Divine, and no account of their deeds (Lekha Jokha or ledger) is kept. All their actions are performed in accordance with the Divine's Will. Therefore, the devotees do not accumulate personal karma (the karmic baggage of their own actions). Kaal (the fear of death) does not affect/scare such devotees.
keval raam naam man vasiaa naame hee mukat paiee ||
Inside the minds of those devotees, only the omnipresent Divine (the all-pervading Ram Naam) abides. Maya (illusion) cannot delude them through duality (Dooja Bhaav). By tuning into the Divine Name (Naam) alone, they attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
ridh sidh sabh bhagataa charanee laagee gur kai sahaj subhaiee ||2||
Riddhis (worldly glories/honours) and Siddhis (supposed supernatural powers) merely roll at the feet of the devotees. The devotees, instead of pursuing these powers, dwell in absolute divine poise (Sahaj) while abiding by the Will (Bhaana) of the eternal Truth.
manmukhaa no parateet na aavee a(n)tar lobh suaau ||
The self-willed individuals (Manmukhs) never develop true faith or trust in the Divine, because within them resides nothing but greed and narrow self-interest.
gurmukh hiradhai sabadh na bhedhio har naam na laagaa bhaau ||
That Divine (Gurmukh) did not reveal the secret of the Shabad within their (Manmukh) heart; therefore, their love for the Divine Name was never established.
kooR kapaT paaj leh jaasee manmukh feekaa alaau ||3||
The self-willed person's (Manmukh's) outward facade of falsehood and deceit will eventually be stripped away, because their speech (the superficial display of religiosity) is entirely love-less and hollow from within.
bhagataa vich aap varatadhaa prabh jee bhagatee hoo too jaataa ||
O Divine! You Yourself manifest within the hearts of Your devotees, and it is only through true devotion (Divine Love) that a deep connection can be established with You (You can be truly known and realized).
maiaa moh sabh lok hai teree too eko purakh bidhaataa ||
The emotional attachment to Maya (worldy illusion) that is spread throughout this world is entirely Your own play (creation). You alone are all-pervading across the entire universe, and You are the Supreme Architect of all.
