ਤੇਰੋ ਨਹੀ ਸੁ ਜਾਨੀ ਮੋਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਆਪਨ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੋ ਖਿਨੂਆ ॥

ਜੋ ਪਰਾਈ ਸੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਨੂਆ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਸੋ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਬਸਾਇਓ ॥
naam sa(n)gee so man na basaio ||
ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਾਹੂ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
chhodd jaeh vaahoo chit laio ||2||
ਸੋ ਸੰਚਿਓ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਤਿਸਾਇਓ ॥
so sa(n)chio jit bhookh tisaio ||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੋਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੩॥

ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਹਰੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹਰਾ ਹੈ॥
The One alone is my Supreme and eternal sanctuary.
ਆਨ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਞਾਣਿ ਨ ਕਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan avar sin(j)aan na karee || rahaau ||
ਆਪਣੇ ਇੱਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਚਾਣਦਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥
Besides my One Divine, I recognize no other.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
vaddai bhaag gur apunaa paio ||
ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਢੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ (ਗੁਰੁ) ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥
By great good fortune, I have met my Beloved Divine.
ਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ॥੧॥

ਉਸ ਸੱਚ ਨੇ ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥
The ultimate Truth has anchored the true Name of the Supreme deep within my mind.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਨੇਮਾ ॥
har har jaap taap brat nemaa ||
ਹਰੀ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਪ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤਪ ਹੈ ॥ ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੁਗਤ ਹੈ ॥ ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ॥
Contemplating the Divine Name, Hari Hari, is itself my recitation and my austerity. This remains my ultimate life discipline, and this is my essential everyday observance.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਕੁਸਲ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਮਾ ॥੨॥
har har dhiaai kusal sabh khemaa ||2||
ਹਰੀ ਹਰੀ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਤੰਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਭ ਸੁੱਖ ਆ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥
Through the remembrance of the Divine, every manner of bliss has entered the tent of my heart.
ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਜਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨੀਆ ॥
aachaar biauhaar jaat har guneeaa ||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਣੇ (ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨੀਆ) ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਉੱਤਮ ਆਚਰਨ, ਸੱਚਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ ॥
To sing the virtues of the Divine is my supreme honor, my true demeanor, and my ultimate nobility.
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਨੀਆ ॥੩॥
mahaa ana(n)dh keeratan har suneeaa ||3||
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮ ਅਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
Listening to the sacred hymns of the Divine awakens supreme ecstasy within my heart.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੭॥
kahu naanak jin Thaakur paiaa || sabh kichh tis ke gireh meh aaiaa ||4||2||17||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਸ ਗਏ ॥
Says Nanak, whoever has realized the Divine Supreme finds that all Divine bliss comes to reside within the sanctuary of their heart.

ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬੀਥੀ ਬੀਥੀ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
hau ddooddedhee dharasan kaaran beethee beethee pekhaa ||
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
gur mil bharam gavaiaa he ||1||
ਇਹ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਮੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੰਨਹੁ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਾਥੈ ॥
eeh budh paiee mai saadhoo ka(n)nahu lekh likhio dhur maathai ||
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੮॥

ਗਰਬਿ ਗਹਿਲੜੋ ਮੂੜੜੋ ਹੀਓ ਰੇ ॥

ਮੂੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਝੱਲਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
The ignorant and unstable heart is utterly possessed by its own pride.
ਹੀਓ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਮਾਇਓ ॥ ਡੀਹਰ ਨਿਆਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਕਿਓ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
heeo maharaaj ree maio || ddeehar niaaiee moh faakio re || rahaau ||
ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੱਛੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੇਵਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫਸ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ।
The illusion spun by the Divine has utterly ensnared the heart; like a helpless fish caught upon a hook, it is bound tightly in the mesh of worldly attachment. Pause.
ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਸਦ ਲੋੜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਹਣੇ ਕੈਠੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੇ ॥

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ (ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਮੰਗਾਂ) ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ (ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ) ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੇ ?
Entrapped in the illusion of Maya, the mortal continuously begs for worldly desires; but how can the ultimate gift of the Divine Name, if not (yet reached) pre-ordained in one’s destiny, be obtained?
ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੋ ਗਾਥੁ ਵਾਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਲੁਭੜਿਓ ਨਿਹਭਾਗੜੋ ਭਾਹਿ ਸੰਜੋਇਓ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਜੀਵ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮੋਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
Infatuated with the physical form gifted by the Divine, the ignorant mind is blindly entangled; thus, the unfortunate one continuously chains themselves to the consuming fire of worldly cravings.
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸੀਖ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸਗਲੋ ਥਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਰੇ ॥
sun man seekh saadhoo jan sagalo thaare sagale praachhat miTio re ||
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ) ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸੇ / ਭਟਕਣਾ / ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਆਦਿ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥
O mind, seek the sanctuary of the true seekers (enlightened) and connect with the Divine; then every trace of your doubt, wandering thoughts, and anxiety will vanish completely.
ਜਾ ਕੋ ਲਹਣੋ ਮਹਰਾਜ ਰੀ ਗਾਠੜੀਓ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ਨ ਪਉੜਿਓ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੯॥

ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਉਸਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੋਹ-ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ (ਗਰਭ) ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥
Nanak proclaims: the mortal who receives the ultimate gift of the Divine Name through the grace of the Divine, is freed from worldly attachments and does not enter into the cycle of reincarnation ever again.
