O naive bride! Why are you so full of pride?
Note:In Gurbani, humanity is personified as a young bride of the Supreme who is questioned for her fleeting pride in beauty, wealth, and worldly cleverness.

aapanaRai ghar har ra(n)go kee na maaneh ||
Why do you not enjoy the love of the Supreme within your own home (heart)?
sahu neRai dhan ka(n)male'ee baahar kiaa ddooddeh ||
O follish bride! Your Divine Spouse dwells right within your heart; why then do you search for Him in the outer world.
bhai keeaa dheh salaieeaa nainee bhaav kaa kar seegaaro ||
Anoint your eyes with the kohl of Divine awe, and beautify yourself with the adornment of love.
taa sohaagan jaaneeaai laagee jaa sahu dhare piaaro ||1||
She alone is known as the true bride, with whom the Husband-Supreme is in love.
What can the ignorant bride do, if she is not pleasing to her Husband-Supreme?
karan palaeh kare bahutere saa dhan mahal na paavai ||
She may offer endless cries of despair and distress, yet amidst the agony of separation, that bride still cannot enter the Divine Presence.
vin karamaa kichh paieeaai naahee je bahuteraa dhaavai ||
Without the Supreme's Divine blessing, nothing is attained except endless wandering.
lab lobh aha(n)kaar kee maatee maiaa maeh samaanee ||
Blinded by sensory pleasures, greed, and pride, the inner self stays utterly lost in Maya (illusion).
einee baatee sahu paieeaai naahee bhiee kaaman iaanee ||2||
Through these worldly ways, the Husband-Supreme is never attained; yet the naive self remains lost in this very delusion.
jai puchhahu sohaaganee vaahai kinee baatee sahu paieeaai ||
Go, seek counsel from the wedded ones, and ask: through what virtues did they win the love of the Divine Spouse?
jo kichh kare so bhalaa kar maaneeaai hikamat hukam chukaieeaai ||
Embrace His divine actions, casting away our personal shrewdness and desire to dominate.
jaa kai prem padhaarath paieeaai tau charanee chit laieeaai ||
Fix your mind upon the feet of the Divine, for it is through His love alone that the supreme treasure of NAAM is received.
Note: In Indian philosophy, spirituality, and culture, the concept of "the feet" (Charan, Pad, or Pada) is highly revered. It is not viewed merely as a physical body part, but as a profound metaphysical symbol representing humility, source energy, cosmic law, and spiritual refuge.
Because the Divine in Sikh theology is entirely formless, Gurbani redefines this traditional metaphor, explicitly equating the 'feet of God' with the Divine Word.

sahu kahai so keejai tan mano dheejai aaisaa paramal laieeaai ||
Obey whatever the Divine Spouse says, offering your entire body and mind to Him—this is the true perfume one must adorn the heart with.
ev kaheh sohaaganee bhaine inee baatee sahu paieeaai ||3||
O sister, the wedded ones teach that only by these means can you find the Divine Spouse.
aap gavaieeaai taa sahu paieeaai aaur kaisee chaturaiee ||
The Divine Spouse is found only when you surrender your self-conceit; apart from this, what good is worldly shrewdness?
sahu nadhar kar dhekhai so dhin lekhai kaaman nau nidh paiee ||
When the Divine Spouse looks upon her with favor, that day becomes worthwhile, and she receives what feels like all the world's nine treasures.
aapane ka(n)t piaaree saa sohaagan naanak saa sabharaiee ||
O Nanak! She alone is the true bride who is cherished by her Husband-Supreme; she radiates supreme blessing above all.
aaisai ra(n)g raatee sahaj kee maatee ahinis bhai samaanee ||
Steeped in the vibrant color of Divine Love, the true bride stays blissfully centered in spiritual tranquility, forever lost in devotion day and night.
su(n)dhar sai saroop bichakhan kaheeaai saa siaanee ||4||2||4||
In reality, only she is recognized as truly elegant, beautiful, intelligent, and wise.
